Richard Whiteley 1943-2005

Richard Whiteley died last night at Leeds General Infirmary.

Countdown was the first programme ever broadcast on Channel 4 and became a firm favourite with millions of regular viewers. Richard never missed a recording in 23 years.

He will be greatly mourned by fans of the show and everyone who worked with him. Our thoughts are with Kathryn and Richard's family and friends.
