Royal Marines Commando School

Category: News Release

From the makers of Educating Yorkshire - a brand new eight-part documentary series for Channel 4 with unprecedented access to arguably the most arduous basic military training programme in the world.

Royal Marines Commando School goes behind-the-scenes at the Royal Marines’ Commando Training Centre in Devon.  With a unique combination of fixed-rig cameras and embedded directors it documents the experiences of Royal Marines in training as never before.

Over 32 weeks raw recruits are turned from civilians to basic soldiers - then transformed into Royal Marines. The extremes of physical and mental exhaustion they endure are unparalleled. Over a third of entrants will either fail or voluntarily withdraw.

This level of access has never been allowed in the Corps' hallowed history and the films reveal the extraordinary experiences of those hoping to earn the coveted green beret. Combining the intimacy of previous fixed rig projects with the life-defining drama unfolding every day they take viewers behind the closed doors of their living quarters and follow them out on gruelling exercises.

Royal Marines Commando School captures the challenges and extreme rigours of training as well as the warmth, humour and camaraderie that flourish among new recruits drawn from every corner of Britain and beyond.
