Sandi Toksvig to host new daytime quiz 1001 Things You Should Know

Category: News Release

Comedian, author and broadcaster, Sandi Toksvig is to host a brand new Channel 4 quiz show, 1001 Things You Should Know. The programme, by producers Thames TV, is the quiz that rewards you for the questions you really should know.

1001 Things You Should Know will see three contestants go head-to-head to prove they know the things they should. After all, there are some quiz questions that you are really proud of knowing... and then there are some questions that you should feel embarrassed for NOT knowing. Answering the basics unlocks trickier questions that can earn you lots of cash. But if you don't know the things you should, you could leave with nothing.

Experts - including recognisable Channel 4 faces - will pose questions about their area of expertise to the contestants via VT - from sport and television, to history and mathematics. If players get their question right, then they can access a cash question which will be asked by Sandi. And if the winner succeeds in answering one final question correctly they'll get to return to the following show as Champion.

With the series starting from the 1st Thing You Should Know and counting upwards, viewers will also get to play along and see how many things they knew, in this one-stop-shop for the busy brain-training generation.

Amongst her comedy and television career Sandi has fronted such shows as Time Team, Island Race and The Talking Show for Channel 4. She has also appeared as a panellist in shows such as Call My Bluff, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Mock the Week, QI and Have I Got News For You. 1001 Things You Should Know isn't Sandi's first quiz role as she also hosted Sky Arts show, What the Dickens. Sandi is also a familiar voice of BBC Radio 4 as the presenter of Excess Baggage and writes regular columns for Good Housekeeping, the Sunday Telegraph and The Lady.

1001 Things You Should Know was commissioned by Channel 4 Head of Formats Dominic Bird and Daytime Commissioning Editor David Sayer and is a Thames Scotland production.

Sandi commented on the new show: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be doing this show as I only know 999 things and I will be wiser by the end of the series".

Channel 4 Head of Formats, Dominic Bird, said: "1001 Things You Should Know will be packed with familiar channel four faces and we are delighted to welcome Sandi back onto the channel to front the show. Her vast knowledge and warm wit makes her the ideal choice."

Suzy Lamb, Head of Entertainment, Thames commented: "We're delighted Sandi is taking the helm of this exciting new commission for us. Questions will cover any area of general knowledge - from science and sport, to celebrity and books - and will give any viewer all the basic general knowledge you'd ever need!"

The 30x30 mins series will be Executive Produced by Head of Entertainment, Thames, Suzy Lamb and Sarah Woolley and will TX this summer.
