Channel 4's top performing factual series from 2015, the much loved, award-winning documentary series, The Secret Life of 4 and 5 Year Olds returns this Autumn with a stellar cast of all new children.

The series that lifts the lid on the uncensored drama of life in the playground is back in a new 4-part series; The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds, 2 x 60’, and The Secret Life of 5 Year Olds, 2 x 60’.

With more cameras than ever before, inside a brand new inner-city school, and with children drawn from all corners of the British Isles, The Secret Life of 4 and 5 Year Olds offers an intimate and fascinating window on the ups and downs - the tears, tantrums and triumphs - that unfold when children of 4 and 5 years old meet each other for the very first time.

Across a gorgeous, sun-drenched summer holiday more than forty children converge on a school that is rigged with cameras and wired for sound - the perfect backdrop for making friends and practising their newly acquired social skills.

This year a new raft of specially designed games will test everything from the children’s ability to handle a one day old chick, to their willingness to take risks, to seeing how well they can resist a 5-tier chocolate fountain. And this time, as well as giving insight into the children’s behaviour, our scientists also consider what may be going on inside the brains of our 4 and 5 year old children.

Embedded in the process and watching all the drama unfold are specialists in child development, Professor Paul Howard-Jones, Educational Neuroscientist, Bristol University, Dr Sam Wass, Developmental Psychologist, University of East London, Dr Elizabeth Kilbey, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, NHS, and Dr Alison Pike, Developmental Psychologist, Sussex University.
