Channel 4's Deputy Head of Documentaries Simon Dickson is to step down from his role at the broadcaster to join independent production company Dragonfly Productions as Creative Director in June.
Dickson has played an important part in many of the recent successful and award-winning commissions from the Channel 4 documentaries department, several of which have pioneered the use of fixed-rig techniques. His credits include The Family, One Born Every Minute (Best Factual Series - Bafta 2010), Coppers, The Force, The Hotel and Amish: World's Squarest Teenagers and singles such as The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off (International Emmy - Best documentary) and Cutting Edge A Boy Called Alex.
Head of Documentaries Hamish Mykura said: 'Simon has been an excellent commissioning editor and a great colleague and all of us at Channel 4 wish him well in his new career in the production sector.'
Simon Dickson said: 'I loved every minute of my time at Channel 4. It is an extraordinary place, I will miss it very much but at the same time, I can't wait to get started with Dragonfly.'
Dickson joined Channel 4 in 2002 and has worked as commissioning editor in both Documentaries and Specialist Factual - working across science and education. He was appointed Deputy Head of Documentaries in 2006. Prior to joining Channel 4 Simon was the series producer of popular BBC strands Tomorrow's World and Trouble At The Top.
