The Singer Takes It All app hits 1 million votes cast

Category: News Release

Alan Carr’s brand new singing game show, The Singer Takes It All, will allow the public to audition directly via the app. The app, which launched on 16 July, now features a new Recording Studio section, which allows the public to audition for the live programme wherever they are using just their mobile phone or tablet.

In an instant, budding singers from around the country can become a Hopeful contestant by belting out their favourite tune on the app. Users can pick a song from a list of more than 200 contemporary and singalong classics, then film themselves, selfie-style, as they follow the words on-screen to capture their performance. It’s then up to other app users to vote performances either a ‘HIT’ or ‘MISS’.

The most popular contestants will be invited straight onto the Channel 4 show to sing live on the track and face the public. For the first time ever, all the decisions for a television show are placed in the audience’s hands via the multiplatform app. Viewers will have total control over the entire outcome, not only by becoming both judge and jury but also through the new in-app recording studio auditions.

Since it launched earlier this month, over 1,000,000 votes have already been cast for the Hopefuls featured on the app. Over 30,000 people have downloaded the app so far and users have been hooked, spending long periods in the app, watching and voting on an average of 35 performances per user.

The free app for The Singer Takes It All is available to download from the App Store and Google Play. The Recording Studio is available now for iOS devices.

Alan Carr says: “I’ve never been involved in anything ground-breaking before! This app makes people at home the judge and jury, and I love that aspect of it. The viewers get to decide whether the singer wins or disappears backwards through the flaps to a life of misery. If you don’t get the app, you don’t have any influence on what happens on the show. Of course, you could try shouting at the telly instead, but it won’t make a blind bit of difference.”

During the live show, armchair judges at home using the app will once again be handed the reins to rate performances a 'hit' or a 'miss' and see the results play out just seconds later.

If judged a hit the hopeful singer will move forward towards the Gold Zone at the front of the dynamic stage to continue their song. But if the majority of viewers judge them a 'miss' they're booted backwards off the track - and out of the iconic double doors

The most well-liked singer on each show takes to the track one more time for the chance to walk away with a cash prize. Can the singers stay on track? It's out of the producers hands as viewers judge for themselves on the app.

The free app was created by Endemol UK and is being built by Chunk, incorporating new live-voting technology developed by Tectonic Interactive.

The Singer Takes it All was commisioned jointly by C4's head of entertainment Justin Gorman and Multiplatform commissioning editor for entertainment and comedy, Jody Smith. The series is a co-production by Endemol Uk's production arms Initial and Remarkable Television with the creative teams from the two companies co-developing the format. Executiveproducer is Nic McNeilis and digital executive producer is Karen Troop.
