Superstar Dogs: Countdown to Crufts winner revealed
Category: News ReleaseSuperstar Dogs: Countdown to Crufts (C4, 5.30pm) draws to a close this evening, where one dog and their owner will walk away with the coveted Superstar Dogs trophy, £1000 cash prize and a grand unveiling at Crufts this Saturday.
The series, sponsored by Be Lungworm Aware has tapped into the UK’s affection for everything canine. Over the past three weeks, 30 contestants and their dogs have competed in a number of challenges including Penalty Shoot Out, Swim and Fetch, Sprint Ball and the final Spectacular Dogstacle Course.
30 have been whittled down to just four who went head to head in a tougher and more challenging course.
Lauren and Wippet Staff Cross Poppy, Wendy and Springer Spaniel Zebadee, Stacey and Beagle/Jack Russell Sydney and Sarah and Parsons Russell Terrier Smurf.
The triumphant winner was Sarah Humphreys and her Parsons Russell Terrier Smurf.
“Words cannot describe how proud I am of Smurf - he truly is a special little dog.
I had no expectations going into this competition, my focus was to try to control my nerves (I suffered badly with them for a whole week leading up to the show), and I did not want that to affect my communications with Smurf. My priority was for both Smurf and myself to enjoy this whole unique experience, live in the moment - and not worry about the results.
I do believe at the end of the day all the dogs were winners and that we as 'competitors' always feel that we take the best dog home regardless of the final result.
With that said - Smurf has always been my little 'Superstar Dog', but it's normally only him and me at home - so I am truly blown away by his performance in the amazing environment of the show.
To win the competition and be awarded the trophy for 'Superstar Dogs' is unbelievable -
Smurf - in the words of John Barrowman 'THAT WAS AWESOME BUDDY! - You have always been my little 'superstar dog' and now you have the official title..... How cool is that!!!”
John Barrowman, an owner himself of two dogs, Captain Jack his Jack Russell Terrier and Harris his English Cocker Spaniel said: “Congratulations to Smurf and Sarah. I'm so pleased that a little dog with such big spirit is the Superstar Dog. I'm partial to a terrier myself and Captain Jack would be very proud! I can't wait to see them again at Crufts.”
