Tamara Lawrence plays Bonnie Sands

Category: News Release

Bonnie is the girlfriend of Dennis Caddy, the leader of Albion a far right, racist organisation, so she has a strong status within Albion. Her inner life was very interesting to work out as Paul Abbott has crafted a complex character. She is a strategist; clever, Machiavellian and quick witted, with a glimmer of vulnerability in there somewhere. There’s a point in the series where she’s in a bit of a mess and you’re not quite sure where she’s at… what decision she’ll make, and if she means what she says.

For research I watched documentaries on the rise of far-right politics in the western world, and followed a lot of what was happening online with Tommy Robinson. NO OFFENCE feels very topical – with all that’s surfaced regarding the alt-right zeitgeist since Brexit and the election of Trump, I reckon this season is bang on the nose of our country’s current political climate.

The best part of filming on NO OFFENCE was the people – acting opposite the Friday Street team, as well as working with Neil Maskell and Sharon Rooney taught me a lot, and was a laugh. The worst of it was the cold! Filming over the winter in below freezing weather in one of the rainiest cities in the UK takes a while to get used to! I loved it and if ever I decided to live somewhere else in England it would be Manchester.
