Twenty-seven Grierson nominations for Channel 4 documentaries

Channel 4 has secured 27 nominations for the prestigious Grierson Awards – more than any other channel. The awards recognise and celebrate documentaries from Britain and abroad that have made a significant contribution to the genre and that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence.

The nominations include four for Documentary Presenter of the Year – more than any other broadcaster - for Grayson Perry (Who Are You?) Levison Wood (Walking the Nile) Arthur Williams( Arthur Williams WW1’s Forgotten Heroes) and Trevor Phillips (Things We Won’t Say About Race That Are True).

A number of returning series have secured nominations – including Gogglebox and First Dates for Best Entertaining Documentary whilst two Channel 4 documentaries have been nominated for Best Newcomer – Jamie Robert’s film Angry White and Proud and Sam Forsdike’s The Stranger on the Bridge.

Three Channel 4 current affairs films have been nominated – Dispatches: Breadline Kids, A&E in the War Zone and The Gypsy Matchmaker and four films for Best Documentary on a Contemporary Theme – 24 Hours in Police Custody, The Paedophile Hunter, Angry White and Proud and The Stranger on the Bridge.
