Unknown facts about Dawson's Creek

Category: News Release

Almost twenty years on from the original series launch we thought it might be high-time to dredge up some of those little known facts that the internet hadn’t told you in a while (or that you’d forgotten) in the name of a further nostalgic fan feature…

1)            Joshua Jackson auditioned for Pacey originally but was made to then audition for Dawson, he eventually got the part despite an exec falling asleep in one of his auditions and having to going up against Jason (American Pie) Biggs

2)            Steven Spielberg had to watch the pilot episode to approve of all the movie posters on Dawson’s (I’m an obsessive Spielberg fan) bedroom wall

3)            Dawson's series one haircut was inspired by Brad Pitt's haircut in The Devil's Own and was insisted upon by the studio

4)            Before she went on to date Chris Klein (remember him?!) and marry Tom Cruise Katie Holmes actually dated Joshua Jackson in the early days of filming

5)            Meredith Monroe and Kerr Smith were 29 and 27 when they played the parts of 16 year old twins Andie and Jack McPhee. Smith was said to have shaved twice daily in order to avoid a 5 o'clock shadow

6)            The pilot wasn't allowed to include the word ‘masturbate’ and the series was deemed too controversial by Proctor and Gamble who pulled their sponsorship of it

7)            Of all 128 episodes Katie Holmes was the only 4 key Creekers to appear in every single one. Dawson missed 6, Pacey 4 and Jen 10

8)            Gwen Stefani, Seth Rogan, Jack Osbourne, Chad Michael Murray, Rachel Leigh Cook, Scott (Scandal) Foley and Jayne (Glee) Lynch all guest starred in episodes across the run

9)            On April 27, 1999, the first soundtrack album of the teen drama, Songs from Dawson's Creek, was released featuring Jessica Simpson and Sixpence None the Richer. It was 5 times Platinum, with the second follow up album also going Platinum.

10)          Meredith Monroe did return to film scenes for the final but they weren’t used in the cut and went straight to DVD. Brutal!
