There are 26 miles in a marathon (give or take a couple of hundred metres), 26 red and black cards in a deck of cards, and 26 cantons in Switzerland.

A rhombicuboctahedron has twenty-six sides. It is also the longest word yet used on this website (I just went through and read everything we've ever published to make sure).

There are 26 letters in the alphabet. Unless you include the letter ∞ which I have invented. It's like a cross between a J and a Q. You wait, it'll be massive.

Brassed Off
Writer and director Mark Herman's debut feature is the passionate, moving story of a small mining community that is struggling to survive while its chief industry is closed down to devastating effect, leaving the colliery brass band led by Danny (Pete Postlethwaite) as its only point of pride. As moves to close the pit progress, the band sets out on the road to a grand musical contest in London, led by Andy (Ewan McGregor) and Gloria (Tara Fitzgerald), hoping to make their point to a wider audience.

To the outside world Stuart (Thomas), Ashley (Madden) and Rachid (Novak) look like angels of mercy; to their colleagues, they're a trio of pedantic know-alls; and to the career alcoholics and late-night revellers on the swarming streets of Leeds, they're nothing more than glorified taxi drivers with one drop-off point - Accident & Emergency.
