Week 39 Highlights

39 is the atomic number of yttrium. You know, good old yttrium. Where would we be without it? We'd have no, um... toasters. They're made from yttrium, right?

There are also 39 activities prohibited on Shabbat (the Sabbath) in Judaism. They include making two loops, separating two threads, warping and winnowing. I hate a day when I can't winnow. I live to winnow, with my yttrium winnower.

There are also 39 steps in, er, that book by John Buchan. I forget its name.

Country House Rescue

Ruth Watson returns to Plas Teg, a Grade I listed Jacobean mansion that has remained virtually unchanged since it was built in 1610. For most of the 20th century Plas Teg lay forgotten and derelict - with no roof, a stream running through it, pigeons flying around, and trees growing through its centre.
