Winter films on Channel 4

Relationships figure strongly in several film premieres on Channel 4 this winter. Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes star in the powerful Oscar-winning drama The Reader, adapted for screen by David Hare. A teenager embarks on an affair with an older woman but later in life he discovers that she worked at a concentration camp during World War II. Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams star in the adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger's novel The Time Traveller's Wife; a romantic drama in which a librarian involuntarily experiences time travel, putting a strain on his marriage. And Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt star in romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer as a man recalls the good and bad times during the course of a 500-day-long relationship.

Channel 4 also premieres Danny Boyles highly-anticipated 127 Hours; his first film following the Oscar smash Slumdog Millionaire. James Franco stars in this Film4 production, based on the true story of mountain climber James Franco who becomes trapped in a mountain canyon and is forced to take desperate measures in order to free himself. And Channel 4 debuts the fourth and most recent of the successful horror franchise: The Final Destination (2009), as more teenagers are pursued by the Reaper.

Additionally a clutch of family films premiere on 4. Wes Anderson's stop-motion adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic The Fantastic Mr Fox features the voices of George Clooney and Meryl Streep. In the children's science-fiction comedy film, a teenager discovers Aliens in the Attic, intent on world domination. And Dakota Fanning takes the titular role of Coraline, adapted from the Neil Gaiman book, in which the bored youngster discovers a secret door to a strange and magical world.
