World Without End

Cynthia Nixon, Peter Firth, Charlotte Riley and Miranda Richardson head up stellar cast in television adaptation of Ken Follett's international bestseller, the sequel to The Pillars Of The Earth.

Featuring an exceptional cast including Cynthia Nixon (Sex & The City), Peter Firth (Spooks), Ben Chaplin (Dorian Gray), Charlotte Riley (The Take), Rupert Evans (The Little House), Tom Weston-Jones (Spooks) and Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter), this rousing new series is set two hundred years after The Pillars of the Earth, as both war and plague are waged upon the medieval town of Kingsbridge.

After the King is killed on the orders of his wife, their son, Edward III (Blake Ritson) is installed on the throne, while Sir Thomas Langley (Ben Chaplin), a knight involved in the plot, finds sanctuary in the arms of the Church. It is here that he meets spirited young apprentice, Caris (Charlotte Riley), a strong woman, who ignites a passionate love affair with the Earl's son, Merthin (Tom Weston-Jones).

However, Caris' individual desires and ambitions are threatened by her own family who already have her future mapped out, one in which Merthin does not feature. As the Hundred Year War wages, and the shadow of the Black Death stalks the lands, poverty and political strife threaten to plunge Kingsbridge into chaos.

In the wake of the devastation, Caris sees that the only way for her community to survive, they must contest the dominant spiritual and political powers of the Church and Crown. Battling for both her own independence and that of those she loves, Caris, inspires the townsfolk to rise up and fight to save Kingsbridge from ruin, and ultimately usher in a new era of freedom, innovation and enlightenment.

World Without End is directed by Michael Caton-Jones and produced by Tandem Communications (The Pillars of the Earth, The Company) and Take 5 Productions (The Tudors, The Borgias) in co-production with Galafilm (Race to Mars, St. Urbain's Horseman) and in association with Ridley Scott and Tony Scott's Scott Free Films (The Good Wife, The Andromeda Strain). Executive Producers are Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Rola Bauer, David W. Zucker, Tim Halkin, John Weber and Jonas Bauer.

Filming took place in Hungary, Slovakia and Austria with Howard Ellis' Mid Atlantic Films (The Pillars of the Earth).
