Indie Accelerator

Applications for the 2022 cohort are now closed.

The Indie Accelerator is an opportunity for indies led by minority ethnic talent to grow their networks, increase their screen business skills, and gain increased access to commissioners and other departments within Channel 4.

SUPPORT

The Indie Accelerator is an intense, focused opportunity delivered by Channel 4 in partnership with The TV Collective to help selected companies achieve business sustainability and strong relationships within the channel.

Selected companies will have a direct relationship with a relevant commissioning editor, who will meet with the indie on a regular basis to discuss their slate, and also take part in a packed schedule of masterclasses, executive coaching, and networking opportunities.

WHO CAN APPLY

Indies who fulfil the following criteria are eligible to apply.

Not less than 25% of the shareholders in the relevant production company are individual(s) from an ethnically diverse background.
Turnover in the most recently publicly available accounts must be below £5 million.
There cannot be any investment from and / or shareholding held by a multinational or pan-national studio or production group. This does not include ‘first look’ or distribution deals. Investment from individuals and other individual UK entities is permitted, as are shareholdings, up to a maximum of 25%.
The company has not had a Channel 4 linear commission in the last five years.
The company has ideas for unscripted content that suitable for Channel 4.
The company has not previously taken part in The Accelerator or The Emerging Indie Fund.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We’re looking for new, distinct voices and stories that are aligned with Channel 4’s editorial priorities and Future4 strategy.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

The deadline for applications is 31st July 2022.

Eligible applications will be assessed by the Indie Accelerator team which may include The TV Collective, Channel 4’s Commissioning Operations team, as well a relevant commissioning editor from each genre.

Applications will be assessed according to the following selection criteria:

Alignment with Channel 4’s editorial priorities – including commitment to Channel 4’s Future4 strategy
Ability to benefit – indies should be at the right moment in their company journey to benefit from Channel 4’s support

We aim to respond to all applicants by 23rd August 2022. Unfortunately, we are not able to give feedback on unsuccessful applications.
