12 Years A Slave & C4 Acquisitions recieve SAG & Golden Globe noms

Category: News Release

Film4’s 12 Years a Slave and a number of the US drama and comedy acquisitions across Channel 4, More4 and E4 stand tall in the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild nominations.

12 Years a Slave, Film4’s third collaboration with Steve McQueen following the award-winning Hunger and Shame, led the Golden Globe nominations with seven.  Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York who is abducted and sold into slavery, its nominations include Best Picture: Drama, Best Director for Steve McQueen and Best Actor: Drama for Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Homeland and debut drama Masters of Sex, both currently airing on Channel 4, and More4’s Scandal and The Good Wife feature for drama while brand new E4 show Brooklyn Nine-Nine (coming to E4 in January) joins The Big Bang Theory and New Girl representing comedy.

The Golden Globe announcement follows the Screen Actors Guild nominations earlier this week – with 12 Years a Slave up for four awards (details below).  They follow the film’s multiple wins at the Boston Society of Film Critics, New York Film Critics Online, Washington DC Area Film Critics Association and Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and its lead in the nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards.

12 Years a Slave is currently on release in the US, and is released in the UK on 10th January 2014.
