Alan Carr returns for a brand new C4 Comedy Gala ad break takeover

Category: News Release

Channel 4 and Open Mike have partnered again for the latest edition of Alan Carr’s ad break takeover during Channel 4’s Comedy Gala on Sunday 29th May.

This year viewers will have the chance to Tweet their favourite ad during the break using a hashtag displayed on screen and the winning ad will be played again before the end of the Gala at no extra cost to the advertiser.

Alan will be giving a comedy makeover to six brands this year, including Domino’s Pizza, LateRooms.com, MoneySuperMarket, Plenty, Premier Inn and Victorian Plumbing. As always, Alan will perform a comedy re-enactment of the brands’ ads which will be shown from the first ad break of the programme at 9:15pm.

Alan will be donning a Domino’s uniform for his version of their ‘So tasty the Mouth Boggles!’ ad. For LateRooms.com, Alan falls out with an excited Chris de Burgh obsessive and reveals he’s a closet Bucks Fizz fan whilst Dave and Colin from MoneySuperMarket will find themselves taking on a new adversary in the Comedy Gala edition of the #EpicDanceOff ad.

Plenty’s Juan Sheet will also be facing some tough competition from Alan, whilst Premier Inn’s most recent ad featuring Lenny Henry ad undergoes a comedy makeover for the takeover. Victorian Plumbing’s animated ad will feature a live action Alan for his interpretation of their bathroom ad.

Rob Ramsey, Partnership Leader at Channel 4 said: “The Comedy Gala is a well-loved event in the Channel 4 calendar and our advertising partners are always excited at the prospect of an Alan Carr comedy makeover. The ad break is a real highlight for these brands and this year we’ve added the innovative Twitter competition element to generate even more engagement with our viewers.”

The ad break take-over is produced by Open Mike and managed by Charlotte Rowland, Creative Strategist at Channel 4, working with agency partners Manning Gottlieb OMD (Premier Inn), MediaCom Manchester (MoneySuperMarket, Victoria Plumbing, LateRooms.com) and ZenithOptimedia (Plenty).

The Channel 4 Comedy Gala is dedicated to the memory of Addison Cresswell who died in 2013. Addison created and initiated the Comedy Gala format in 2010 to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
