AP McCoy uses wind machine in preparation for the Grand National

Category: News Release

With rain and blustery conditions expected for Saturday’s Crabbie’s Grand National, champion jockey AP McCoy took the unusual step of using a wind machine in preparation for the meeting.

The moment was spectacularly capture on ‘Cinemagraph’ by Channel 4, the meetings official broadcaster.

Wind machines are not normally associated with horse racing but are used elsewhere by the world’s top sports stars such as cyclist Bradley Wiggins and Formula One’s Lewis Hamilton.

The going on the Grand National course is accepted to be good-to-soft, good in places.  However, some rain, possibly heavy at times, is forecasted over the coming days.

Channel 4’s coverage of Grand National Day on Saturday April 5th starts at 9am and viewers can soak up the atmosphere right through to the main event at 4.15pm.

The acclaimed pairing of Clare Balding and Nick Luck will lead presentation of the three day festival alongside the Channel 4 Racing team.
