C4 bolsters Consumer Insights team with Chief Data Scientist hire

Channel 4 today announced it has appointed Greg Detre to the newly created position of Chief Data Scientist to revolutionise how Channel 4 leverages rich behavioural data for both commercial and creative benefits.

 

Greg joins Channel 4’s multi award-winning Consumer Insights team and will report to Sanjeevan Bala, Head of Data Planning & Analytics. He will be responsible for helping to boost Channel 4’s leading position at the forefront of data science in broadcasting by leading the team to build new powerful data driven products across the business.

 

Greg joins Channel 4 with 17 years' software engineering experience across a dozen programming languages and first-class scientific training from Oxford, Harvard and Princeton. He most recently held the position of Chief Technology Officer at Big Health/Sleepio for two years, and before that led the Data Science team at The Guardian, and co-founded Memrise.com.

 

Channel 4 boasts one of the most advanced big data platforms in the industry and this leadership has been recognised with award wins including: BCS Chartered Institute for IT and Computing’s  Big Data Project of the Year; DMA’s Gold for Best Use of Data in a Multi-Channel Environment; Marketing Week’s Grand Prix for Loyalty and Engagement Marketing and Marketing Week's Data Strategy Award for Data Storytelling.
