Channel 4 have commissioned betty to make a new four part series on the inside realm of the restaurant trade, Tricks of the Restaurant Trade (w/t), presented by Simon Rimmer, Kate Quilton and Adam Pearson.

Tricks of the Restaurant Trade (w/t) sets out to find out how customers can ensure they get the best quality food at the best price and reveals some of the techniques that restaurants use to make customers spend more. It also tackles food issues including comparing the cuts of meat used in gourmet burger chains with those used in McDonalds, how restaurants are serving food which has been prepared miles away off site and asking has Britain ruined the pizza. The series has secured access to a range of chains including Gourmet Burger Kitchen and KFC.

Dorothy Byrne, head of news and current affairs at Channel 4 said: “At Channel Four we have previously revealed a lot about the secrets of supermarket food and how food is made in the UK. Now we’re doing the same for restaurant and takeaway food because most families eat out a couple of times a week so it’s vital that they know what’s in the food they’re eating and whether they’re getting value for money.”

Neil Smith, joint managing director, betty, said: “This series lifts the lid on the things consumers should be aware of when they eat out. There are over a quarter of a million places to eat out in the UK and we’ve become a nation of foodies. This consumer show taps into the rising trend for dining out and buying takeaways rather than cooking at home.”

The 4 x 30 series was commissioned by Channel 4’s head of news and current affairs Dorothy Byrne. The executive producer for betty is Victoria Hamburger and the series producer is Adam Vandermark.
