C4 Education goes to Stammer School (w/t) with Musharaf

Category: News Release

Channel 4 has commissioned Stammer School (w/t) from Twofour. The film will follow a cast of struggling stammerers as they enrol in a course that aims to help them finally find their voice.

Stammer School (w/t) will feature Musharaf Asghar, affectionately known as Mushy, from Educating Yorkshire.  Last year he found a place in the heart of the nation as millions tuned in to watch him learn methods to overcome his often crippling stammer, and achieve the C grade he needed in his English GCSE.

Although Mushy’s stammer has improved, he is still often left speechless.   With the help of an intensive programme, led by other stutterers, Stammer School (w/t) will follow Mushy and others as they attempt to overcome this huge stumbling block in their lives.

Commissioned by Education Editor Bec Milligan, Stammer School (w/t) is part of the broadcasters wider strategy to cover a broad range of topics that both resonate  and connect with young viewers in a meaningful way. The programme will be produced by Twofour, executive produced by Andrew Mackenzie & David Clews.

Bec Milligan said: “Stammer School (w/t) is a fantastic reflection of our current education strategy, it tackles issues relevant to a young audience in an engaging and inspiring way .  We’re looking forward to working with the team at Twofour on this ambitious and exciting project. “

David Clews added: “Most of us take speaking for granted.  Seeing Musharaf find his voice in Educating Yorkshire was incredibly moving.  It’s a huge privilege to be able to follow Mushy, and others, as they attempt to beat their stammers, hopefully with life changing results.”
