Airing on Channel 4 on Monday 3rd August at 10pm the programme will tell the story of the man who delivered Liverpool’s first league title after a wait of 30 years.
The partnership with the ERDINGER Weissbräu brewery, which dates back to 1886, was brokered by the 4Sales Nations and Regions team, based in Manchester and MediaCom.
Commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Sport Pete Andrews and produced by the award-winning independent production company Whisper, the 60-minute fast-turnaround documentary, will follow the story of both Liverpool FC and Jürgen Klopp from 1990 to the point where their paths met and footballing history was made.
Pete said: “Jürgen has made a phenomenal impact on the English game finally securing the league title for Liverpool FC an achievement that has eluded them for 30 very long years. And he managed to do this while picking up a Champions League title on the way.
“This documentary will provide a remarkable insight into the man who, by his own admission, was a very average footballer but is undoubtedly already one of the greatest managers the game has seen.”
Sophie Lloyd, Channel 4’s Branded Entertainment & Creative Leader, said: “Jürgen Klopp is clearly the hero for the red half of Liverpool having made such an incredible impact since his arrival in 2015.
“A programme chronicling the incredible rise of Liverpool FC’s German manager coupled with one of the country’s premium beers is a perfect match and the 4Sales team in Manchester have done a fantastic job putting this deal together.”
Wolfgang Kuffner, Marketing Director of ERDINGER Weissbräu commented “With his easy going, approachable style and charisma, his demand for absolute quality and his enjoyment of life, Jürgen Klopp has established an identity that extends beyond football allegiances and even the game itself.
“He is a perfect match to be our ambassador and we are excited to partner Channel 4 to bring our shared passion for uncompromising quality and enjoyment to the screen.”
Paul Cooper, COO at MediaCom North Group, said: “At MediaCom we are always looking for new and innovative ways to integrate our client’s brands closer to the content that audiences love. This campaign is a perfect example of partnership between brand, media partner and talent. We are proud to bring this documentary to screen, with Jürgen’s distinctive charisma truly embodying the ERDINGER brand.”
The film will detail how Jürgen hung up his playing boots and went on to find his true calling as a football manager and then travelled, via Frankfurt, Mainz and Dortmund, to Liverpool FC where he rose to the pinnacle of European and English football.
