Channel 4 announces the cast of new drama The Truth
Category: News Release
When Jo receives an anonymous text message alleging a sexual relationship between her new boyfriend and her daughter, she is plunged into a world of chaos.
As the days go on and the insidious doubt creeps in, Jo struggles with her suspicions. Is her daughter indeed acting strangely, or is it all in her head? Just who in her life is telling the truth?
While Jo’s story is fictional, the plot of The Truth is inspired by dozens of real-life cases.
Starring Indira Varma (Game of Thrones) Luke Treadaway (Fortitude, A Street Cat Named Bob) and Neil Maskell (Humans, Kill List), the film is written and directed by the BAFTA award-wining David Nath (The Watchman, The Murder Detectives), produced by Kate Cook (The Watchman, Glasgow Girls) and executive produced by Ben Chanan (director of Cyberbully, The Missing)
Writer/Director David Nath said: ''Imagine if your partner was randomly accused of sexually abusing one of your children? It's hard to think of a more toxic allegation yet it happens far more often than we realise. This film explores the consequences of an accusation and how it suddenly makes you question everything you thought about the person you live with."
It has been commissioned by Nick Mirsky, Channel 4 Head of Documentaries, who said: “I am really excited about the fact that we are able to back Dave’s next step in the world of drama. ‘The Watchman’ was an extraordinary achievement, and this promises to be an even more nuanced and sophisticated take on modern life.”
This is Story Film’s first commission for Channel 4 and filming begins in Bristol later this month.
Story Films co-founder Peter Beard added: "We're delighted that our first Story Films project is a Channel 4 drama. For us it’s about finding the right way to tell big and important stories, sometimes drama can get you to a place that documentary can't."
