Channel 4 appoints Charlie Palmer to new All 4 Managing Editor role

Channel 4 today announced it has appointed Charlie Palmer to the newly created role of Managing Editor of All 4 to define and deliver the editorial proposition for the platform and curate the viewer experience.

All 4 hosts an expanding portfolio of original programming, catch-up, box set and live linear content and has over 13 million registered viewers including half of all 16-34 year olds in the UK.  

Reporting to Richard Davidson-Houston, Head of All 4 and Digital Content, Charlie will oversee All 4’s multi-million pound original content budget which covers original commissions, acquisitions and TV programme extras and extensions. He will oversee the online video commissioning editors, the programme support and the online channel management team.

Charlie will be responsible for adapting All 4’s editorial proposition across different platforms e.g. PC, iOS and Android to reflect the different viewing behaviours of audiences on these platforms and devices – and create cross-platform promotion and joined up commissioning opportunities.

Key to All 4’s broader personalisation strategy, Charlie will bring the channel’s core Viewer Relationship Management (VRM) unit into his team and Gill Whitehead, Director of Audience Technologies & Insight will continue to direct the strategy of all the channel’s VRM activities. Charlie will also work in partnership with the wider commissioning team, scheduling, Marketing and 4Sales teams.

Previously Charlie was Head of Viewer Relationship Management within Channel 4’s Audience Technologies & Insight division where he led the consumer facing element of the broadcaster’s award-winning data strategy. Before this Charlie oversaw all marketing activity for E4, comedy & entertainment, All 4 and social media working across flagship campaigns including Misfits, Black Mirror, The Inbetweeners, Stand Up To Cancer and the E4 and All 4 rebrands.

This appointment completes the senior All 4 Product and Editorial team headed up by Richard and overseen by Jay Hunt, Chief Creative Officer. Charlie joins Sarah Milton, All 4 Head of Product, who is responsible for driving the All 4 product offer and ensuring its usability, design, functionality and commercial capability.

Charlie will take up this post on 1st January 2016.

All 4 has recently launched its much anticipated Android app in time for the launch of Walter Presents on 3rd January which showcases the world’s best foreign-language drama free-of-charge to UK viewers, in a partnership with Global Series Network.
