Channel 4 big winners at Broadcast Digital Awards

Category: News Release

The Broadcast Digital Awards are referred to in some circles as the biggest Digital Awards awarded by a TV industry publication in the entire calendar. Yuh-huh! And we’ve only just bleedin’ gone and cleaned up at them. Not literally, you understand. By the time the cleaners were in, we were tucked up in bed snuggling up to our eight (EIGHT!) awards*.

Not only that. We won the Big One – Channel of the Year – for E4. Disappointingly, the actual award is not bigger than the other ones. Except, of course, it so is.

E4 outmuscled competition from CBBC, BBC3, Dave, Discovery and Sky Atlantic to land the gong, with shows including Bad Robots, Glue and Troy helping it secure a 2% viewing share in 2014. The channel’s 16-34 share also reached a record high of 5.47%, up +8% year-on-year, meaning E4 was yet again the biggest digital channel amongst 16-34s.

On a triumphant night for E4, the channel also won Best Entertainment Channel and Best Acquisition for drama The 100.

Hollyoaks’ use of messaging service Snapchat helped the soap pick up the Best Social Media and Digital Marketing award.

Elsewhere, C4’s Stand Up To Cancer game Reverse the Odds won two prizes in the multiplatform categories, as did entertainment format The Singer Takes It All.

*We all share a massive bed at Channel; 4. That’s not weird, is it?
