Channel 4 consumer show Supershoppers commissioned for full series

Category: News Release

Head of News and Current Affairs, Dorothy Byrne, has commissioned a new consumer series Supershoppers from Firecrest Films, following on from a successful pilot earlier in 2015. Supershoppers is a new kind of consumer programme, combining features, satire and investigative journalism. The Supershoppers are looking at retailing, marketing, branding, and how and why we buy what we buy - everything from clothes to food to travel, what goes in to them, how they are sold to us, and why we buy them.

Presenters Anna Richardson and Andi Osho bring their own expertise in features and entertainment, and once again will be revealing the secrets behind big brands and retailers, plus how to really get value for money. They’ll shop til the prices drop and put a range of products and services to the test to find out exactly what we get for our money.

Firecrest Executive producer Nicole Kleeman says; ‘The Supershoppers pilot was very well received across the spectrum, and we’re delighted to be getting our teeth into a series that’s both revelatory and a lot of fun. It’s great news for the company, for production in Scotland, and for all of us who shop and want to know what we are really buying.’

Commissioning Editor Dorothy Byrne says, ‘I love this programme and the pilot of Supershoppers was hugely successful, peaking at two million viewers. It combines the great journalism which Firecrest has brought to so many successful Dispatches with the sensibility of a popular features programme. I love the fact that the presenters are two empowered and witty women who bring you a wealth of useful information to keep you one step ahead as consumers. This is a series for the canny shopper who's got better things to get shocked and heart-broken about than a dodgy three-for-two offer on a punnet of strawberries but is determined to get the best deals around."
