Channel 4 ends the year on a high

As the year draws to a close Channel 4 is heading towards 2016 with a spring in its step having seen its peak audience share increase more than any other terrestrial channel.

With three weeks of 2015 remaining, Channel 4 is the only terrestrial channel to have seen an increase in share in both peak time viewing and across all major demographics in all hours – 16-34 year olds; individuals; and ABC1s.

Channel 4 also embarks upon a new year with critical acclaim ringing in its ears having won more BAFTAs than any other single channel and more Griersons than any other broadcaster. And it dominated a national newspaper’s (The Guardian) poll of the best tv programmes of the year, as selected by its tv critics and writers, taking 14 out of 50 spots – more than any other broadcaster.

Channel 4’s Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt said: “2015 has been a real high point for 4 with the channel mopping up awards and seeing growth for all audiences. It’s a tribute to the work of the commissioning team and the brilliant producers, directors and writers we work with that Channel 4 has aired so much unmissable television this year - from Gogglebox to Humans, Catastrophe to The Murder Detectives.”

Channel 4’s peak time (7pm to 11pm) audience saw a year on year increase of +7.6 per cent. Peak time audiences for the key 16-34 year old audience grew by a +5.9 per cent and ABC1s were up by an impressive +12.7 per cent.

Across all hours the channel’s audience is up by one per cent, the 16-34 year old audience is up is also up one per cent and ABC1s are up by six percent.
