Channel 4 meets the Men in Pubs

Category: News Release

From the Queen Vic to the Rover’s Return, the great British boozer has for decades been the backdrop to many an unmissable television drama.

Now, Channel 4 has commissioned a fresh, funny and engaging documentary about the modern men who partake in pub culture and poses the question: 'What defines a man in 2014?

Using a mix of observational documentary, scripted reality and retrospective interviews, Men in Pubs will explore the lives of men that like to get together regularly in their local boozer to discuss what's on their mind, and to put the world to rights.

Filming will be set in a single pub with contributors coming together from different parts of the UK to share provocative and rich stories over a pint or three.

Men in Pubs was ordered by Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor, Emma Cooper.

The 60 minute programme will be executive produced by Diene Petterle and produced by Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson’s company Eleven Film, which has made a number of documentaries and dramas for Channel 4, BBC and Sky.

Emma Cooper says:  “This film aims to answer the question ‘what do men actually talk about in pubs…?’ And what does it mean to be a man in complicated times. I think Jamie and Joel from Eleven have the right mix of documentary and drama story-telling to make this pub act as a microcosm for all the joys and challenges that all different types of men face in 2014.”
