Channel 4 orders another slice of Toast

Category: News Release

Channel 4 has commissioned a third series of the Rose D’Or winning comedy, Toast Of London. The show was originally broadcast as a one-off for Channel 4's Funny Fortnight season of comedies marking the channel's 30th birthday and has since had two critically acclaimed runs. The show is nominated for an incredible six awards in this year’s British Comedy Awards.

The comedy sees Matt Berry play Steven Toast, an eccentric actor with a chequered past who spends more time dealing with problems off stage than performing on it.  The supporting cast includes Doon Mackichan, Robert Bathurst, Tracy-Ann Oberman and Harry Peacock. The new 6x30 series from Objective Productions will again be written by Berry and Arthur Mathews. The series starts filming in June and will TX later in 2015.

C4 Head of Comedy, Phil Clarke, said: “Channel 4 has always backed original comedy, the type of shows you wouldn’t find anywhere else, and Toast Of London represents a significant new chapter in that story, and in our comedy heritage. We are so proud to have the show, with its amazing cast and hilarious scripts.   Matt Berry and Arthur Mathews have forged a dynamic new writing team, and I eagerly look forward to their next series.”

Andrew Newman, Executive Producer at Objective Productions commented, “Toast has been great fun to make and hilarious to watch, so we’re very excited that Channel 4 have commissioned another series.”

The series, commissioned by Rachel Springett, C4 Comedy Commissioning Editor, goes into pre-production mid-May. Produced by Kate Daughton, Executive Producers are Andrew Newman and Ben Caudell for Objective Productions (part of the All3 Media Group), makers of Fresh Meat, Peep Show, The Cube and Derren Brown.
