Channel 4 recommissions Supershoppers
Category: News Release
Head of News and Current Affairs, Dorothy Byrne, has recommissioned two new 6 part series of Supershoppers from Scottish independent production company Firecrest Films, following on from successful previous series which typically rated 11% above slot average. Supershoppers Do Christmas has also been recommissioned after last year’s episode peaked at over 2million viewers.
Supershoppers is a new kind of consumer programme, combining features, satire and investigative journalism. The Supershoppers are looking at retailing, marketing, branding, and how and why we buy what we buy - everything from clothes to food to travel, what goes in to them, how they are sold to us, and why we buy them.
Supershoppers won both the BAFTA Scotland and RTS Scotland awards for Features and Factual Entertainment in 2016, a rarity for a Current Affairs commission.
Commissioning Editor Dorothy Byrne says, “Supershoppers is both highly watchable television and strong consumer journalism with two female presenters who champion the interests and rights of our viewers”
