Channel 4 take fixed rig behind bars

Category: News Release

Channel 4 and RDF Television have been granted unprecedented access by the Scottish Prison Service to capture life inside Polmont Young Offenders Institution, Scotland's national holding facility for male young offenders.
Combining the ‘fixed rig’ camera technology behind the critically-acclaimed series ‘Educating’ and '24 Hours in A&E', with traditional handheld cameras, this new observational documentary series will explore the methods that staff at HMYOI Polmont employ in efforts to rehabilitate young offenders aged between 18 and 21, as well as following day-to-day life inside the establishment.
Amy Flanagan, Deputy Head of Documentaries, Channel 4 said: “This is yet another first for the rig - to be installed in a prison environment. Being granted such incredible access will allow us to provide an even more intimate and authentic portrait of what life is like for these young men behind bars.”

Situated close to Falkirk, Polmont’s offenders are serving sentences ranging from six months to Life.
The series has been commissioned for Channel 4 by Head of Documentaries Nick Mirsky and Deputy Head of Documentaries Amy Flanagan and will be executive produced by Daniel Fromm for RDF Television.
Daniel Fromm, Executive Producer, RDF Television said: "We’re excited to be working with the Scottish Prison Service to tell the story of how HMYOI Polmont attempts to turn around the lives of the young offenders in its charge."
