Channel 4 wins five Baftas
Category: News ReleaseCheer up, you lot, This Is England '88 has just won a Bafta...
Channel 4 has won five gongs at the 2012 Bafta Television Awards at a star-studded gala which took place at somewhere-or-other last night. The prestigious awards are of great significance, and can best be described as the Baftas for the TV industry.
Channel 4 drama triumphed in two categories: Random won best Single Drama, and This Is England '88 won best mini-series (following on from Bafta success last year with This Is England ‘86).
Derren Brown: The Experiments was named best Entertainment Programme, and Mummifying Alan: Egypt's Last Secret, took the Specialist Factual Award. Channel 4 News won best News Coverage for its reporting of the Japanese earthquake.
The five awards represent a clean sweep for Channel 4 of the most prestigious Baftas, or ‘Big 5' as we have just named them, as they are universally accepted as the most important awards, while all the others are (whisper it) a teensy bit lame.
