Channel 4 wins, like, a gazillion RTS awards

Fresh Meat

At a star-studded and glamorous awards ceremony presented by Rob Brydon at Grosvenor House last night, Channel 4 won a dizzying (though that may have been the wine) ten awards. That's more than the BBC, Price-Drop TV, Discovery Shed and the GOD Channel combined!

Jay Hunt, Channel 4's Chief Creative Officer, put down her champagne long enough to say: "It's a formidable achievement for Channel 4 to win 10 Royal Television Society programme awards and testament to the fantastic work of our commissioning team and production partners in getting exceptional programming to air.  The results are particularly exciting because of the range of winners - from Mummifying Alan to Fresh Meat, Top Boy to Deal or No Deal Live, Graffiti Wars to Derren Brown: The Experiments.  To receive acclaim across such diverse subject matter demonstrates so much of what is great about Channel 4."

As we surf around the streets of Horseferry Road on a wave of both champagne and smug self-satisfaction, the particularly pleasing thing is that the ten awards mark the best performance by Channel 4 since, well, since as far back as we could be bothered to check, which was a decade. It might even be the best performance ever, but we don't like to brag (the entirety of this release notwithstanding...)

A Channel 4 spokesman said: "Yeah! Woo! Thanks. Thank you. Thanks. Thank you very much. Okay. Thanks. Yessss! Thank you. That's enough. Really. Quieten down. Thank you. That'll do. Really, that's enough. Thanks. Simmer down. Enough! You're starting to embarrass us..."
