Channel 4's The IT Crowd & Fresh Meat win Comedy.co.uk Awards

Category: News Release

The results of the Comedy.co.uk Awards 2013 are in and Channel 4 has scooped two wins with Fresh Meat, Best TV Comedy Drama and The IT Crowd, Best returning TV Sitcom. The awards, now in their 8th year, are organised by The British Comedy Guide (www.comedy.co.uk), a website dedicated to the promotion and celebration of British comedy, which attracts more than half a million unique visitors each month.

The Comedy.co.uk Awards are notable as the results in each of the 11 key categories are entirely based on a public vote. Every TV and radio comedy from 2013 was nominated – there was no shortlist. A total of 346 programmes were eligible.

Mark Boosey and Aaron Brown, the editors of The British Comedy Guide, say:

“Once again, ordinary comedy fans came in their droves to cast votes in the annual Comedy.co.uk Awards, giving a clear indication as to the state of the broadcast comedy industry in Britain. The robust set of results paints a very positive, healthy picture of British comedy on both television and radio, with a range of programmes delighting audiences young and old alike. The exciting offerings of 2013 may have been and gone, but there appear to be plenty more on the horizon for 2014, and we look forward to seeing the public reaction to them next January.”
