BRIAN NORTON (played by Jack Reynor)
Brian at 27, known to his friends as Norton, is likeable but private. Perhaps a little too gentle for his own good, he has a soul which he is clinging on to in the face of his life’s very evident reality.  Born on Primo 76 of humble stock, his dad was an administrator for primobolity, he fell into leisure and tourism after graduation.  He’s in a semi-committed relationship with Barbara, but is uncomfortable in confessing his love for her.  Barbara makes her feelings on their relationship very clear when she describes him as being on the road to loser-ville.  But far from being a loser, Norton is man of integrity who is willing to put his life on the line – he just needs to meet the right person – however unlikely that person might be…

ED ANDREWS (played by Benedict Wong)

At 42, Ed is now a little long in the tooth, like an old beast dangerously close to being put out to pasture, but he can still talk the talk. Known to his friends as Andrews, he describes himself as trash, something which he proves to be true when he decides to scam a sweet old lady out of her life savings. There is a romantic inside him, and even a conscience, but it’s deeply buried and the cynic and survivor in him wins most of the time, but will it this time?

IRMA LOUISE GORDON (played by Geraldine Chaplin)
Described as ‘super-naturally old’, and at 342 years old it’s understandable why, Irma is small of stature but huge of spirit, and despite having only months to live, she is very much alive.  She drives her own spacecraft and lives alone with her robot RB29. She wants to travel to Earth: a planet she remembers her grandmother speaking so fondly of, but has been extinct for hundreds of years.  Perhaps unsurprisingly for her age she is very deaf and so travels with RB29.  Irma and Norton form an unlikely bond and awaken emotions within each other that they didn’t know they were capable of feeling. She has a determination that people seriously under-estimate. She is also profoundly mystical, believing deep down there are still mysteries man has not explained, and none more than the human heart.

RB29 (performer played by Malik Ibheis, voice played by Christopher Staines)
A human-sized robot with an intelligent face, the last of a model that has long since been decommissioned,  RB29 might be just a robot, but when it comes to looking out for Irma RB29 displays more humanity than Norton - and especially Andrews - combined.

BARBARA (played by Georgina Campbell)

Norton’s partner and a bit of a princess, Barbara feels that she has hooked up with someone beneath her station. She once believed in him as a romantic and handsome young man but she has long been disappointed. She is conventional and sees nothing wrong with that. She wants out of this provincial life on Primo 243. She wants the high life and Norton isn’t delivering it.
