Commercial Affairs

The Commercial Affairs Department brings together Channel 4's professional support services covering Legal & Business Affairs, Production Finance, Rights and Corporate Legal.

The Legal & Business Affairs and Production Finance teams within Commercial Affairs are responsible for the negotiation and the contractual and financial aspects of all developments, commissions and licensed programmes, as well as Channel 4's on-line activities.

The Rights section of Commercial Affairs negotiates with all the main UK collecting societies (representing actors, writers, music publishers etc).  It also administers clearances for UK secondary TV programme sales and manages the channel's comprehensive rights database.

The Corporate Legal section supports all areas of Channel 4's business needs relating to:

• corporate governance and company secretarial,
• major commercial transactions (ie non-programme related) including channel distribution and syndication deals,
• contracting for programme sponsorship and ad sales,
• copyright and piracy, Data Protection, Freedom of Information and other regulatory and statutory responsibilities.
