The Cutting Edge Directors Scheme

At Channel 4 documentaries we have an opinion, a take on the world and a clear voice. We want to inspire and develop the next generation of talented film-makers to stand alongside some of the most successful voices of documentary.
 
We are running our successful Cutting Edge Directors Scheme again to take you to the next level in your Directing career. One of last year’s participants won the BAFTA for Best Single Documentary and many of the others are now directing high profile singles/series across the industry.
 
The Cutting Edge Directors Scheme is a series of 8 sessions uniquely tailored to give you the skills to set the documentary agenda within the UK’s foremost documentary strand and find your voice. The sessions will further your skills in story-telling, interviewing, authorship, edit-skills and offer you the chance to make a Cutting Edge film.
 
This is not for first time Directors. You will have already directed a one hour film whether it be stand alone or within a series.
 
Each session will be led by an industry figure. These are not Masterclasses. The scheme will be suitable for those in full-time employment – the sessions will be fortnightly, outside of working hours and there will be time to prep for each task. Please note these sessions are unpaid.
 
There are up to 8 places available on this scheme.
 
The course will start in the autumn.
 
Please also supply a written reference from someone in the industry supporting your application.
