December 4oD report - 427m long form video views in 2011

Long form Video on Demand views reached a total of 427m in 2011 across all the platforms on which 4oD is available, representing a 16% increase compared with 2010.

Archive content and Channel 4 catch up services attracted 40m views during December. Viewers of 4oD on Channel4.com watched for an average of 26 minutes per view, with the average number of hours viewed per month per user rising to 2 hours, for December. 

Series three of the Bafta-nominated smash hit drama series Misfits was the most viewed series of the month, attracting over 3m views in December. Teen drama Hollyoaks held strong as the second most viewed series throughout December with 2.2m views and This is England '88 came in third with 1.4m views.

The Inbetweeners series 1 and 3, Desperate Scousewives, Black Mirror, and PhoneShop series 2 were also strong performers in December, all attracting over 1m views.

Entertainment remained the most watched genre of December with over 10m views. Drama came in a close second with just under 10m views owing to series including Misfits, Hollyoaks, and This is England '88. Comedy gained a massive 3m more views throughout December than November drawing 9.6m views of shows including all three series of The Inbetweeners, Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror, Phoneshop and the increasingly popular Big Bang Theory. 

An app of 4oD on Xbox Live launched on December 21st, and in just over one month, has risen to become the third largest platform for 4oD views.
