The release of BARB ratings for 2016 has shown that E4 has recorded a record-breaking start to the year. Audience share across the key demographics of 16-34s (5.45%) and all individuals (2.01%) are at record highs for this time of the year.

Despite competition from other digital channels, E4 continues to attract the highest share of 16-34 viewers.

A host of new E4 programming has driven a substantial +12% year on year growth in prime time viewing. New episodes of Tattoo Fixers are averaging 1.3m viewers an episode, up 500k on last series and accounting for 8% of E4’s total viewing, new sci-fi drama series The Aliens is currently consolidating at 965k after launching with 540k, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has averaged a 4.1% share, more than double the slot average.

Weekend daytime viewing to E4 has also increased this year with hit US sitcoms The Big Bang Theory and The Goldbergs helping to drive an +17% growth in audience share compared to last year.

Jay Hunt, Channel 4’s Chief Creative Officer, said: “E4 has had a fantastically confident start to 2016 with home grown hits from Tattoo Fixers to The Aliens. It’s fantastic to see young audiences still choosing it as their number one digital channel.”

E4 has more exciting shows on the way for 2016 including; Rush Hour, a spin-off of the hit US film franchise, Holiday Tattoo Fixers, in which our tattooists set up shop in the Mediterranean, and Containment, the US re-make of a hit Belgian drama about a deadly epidemic.
