E4 continues its record breaking success in 2014 achieving its biggest first half of a year ever.

Across the first six months of the year E4’s share of its key demographic of 16-34 year old viewers rose by +4% year-on-year to an impressive 5.3% - further strengthening its place as the number one digital destination for young audiences and outperforming both Channel 5 (4.36%) and BBC2 (3.92%).

Over the same period the channel pulled in a 1.95% share of all individuals, an increase of +3% compared with the first half of 2013.

Jay Hunt, Channel 4’s Chief Creative Officer said: “From My Mad Fat Diary to The 100, E4’s mix of great British shows and the best of US series make it unmissable for young audiences.”

E4 has enjoyed huge success this year due to a combination of home grown hits and US acquisitions.

My Mad Fat Diary returned in February bigger than ever with 1m viewers, whilst smash hit Made in Chelsea continued to grow its audience into its seventh series when it achieved its biggest episode ever with 1.5m.

Ever popular The Big Bang Theory averaged 2.4m and peaked with a massive 2.7 million viewers to a single episode. New Girl topped the launch of its previous series, pulling in 1.2m viewers to the debut of its third series.

2014 Soap of The Year winner Hollyoaks averaged over 1.1m viewers and was up +23% compared with the first half of last year.

In January twice Golden Globe winning Brooklyn Nine-Nine was new to E4 and averaged 1.1m whilst new US drama The Tomorrow People achieved the channel’s highest rating launch episode ever (2m) - only to be overtaken by brand new acquisition The 100 in July which launched with a massive 2.5m. This month also saw the finale of How I Met Your Mother average an audience of 1.4m.
