Category: News Release

E4 has achieved its biggest year in the channel’s history, increasing its share of individuals and key demographic of 16-34 year olds to a record high in 2013, whilst 2014 has kicked off with even more record breaking success.

The channel scored an individuals share of 1.89% in 2013 which was up +2% compared with 2012 and for the ninth consecutive year has retained its position as the number one destination for young audiences, pulling in a 16-34 share of 5.09% (+3% YoY) - outperforming BBC2 and Channel 5.

E4’s continued success across 2013 was driven by impressive performances from shows including The Big Bang Theory (2.5m), New Girl (1m), How I Met Your Mother (1.2m) and Made in Chelsea (1.1m), all of which celebrated their highest rating series to date with Made in Chelsea securing the top spot as the most tweeted about reality show episode of the year*.

Hollyoaks increased its audience by a remarkable +21% YoY (0.9m), more than any terrestrial soap, whilst brand new British drama My Mad Fat Diary (619k) was received with critical acclaim, as was home grown comedy drama Drifters which outperformed the channel's slot average (471k).

2013 saw E4 take home the trophy for Best Entertainment Channel at Broadcast’s Digital Awards.

Jay Hunt, Chief Creative Officer said: “E4’s had a fantastic 2013 and is having a storming start to the New Year with its distinctive mix of the best of American series like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and award winning home grown shows like Made in Chelsea.”

E4 has increased its share of audience every year since launch and 2014 has got off to a flying start. Last week, brand new US drama The Tomorrow People achieved the channel’s highest rating launch episode ever (2m) and last night’s highly anticipated, twice Golden Globe winning Brooklyn Nine-Nine debuted to 1.1m viewers – more than doubling the slot average.

E4’s exciting slate for 2014 will showcase brand new shows including structured reality series Party House (w/t) which each week will see a different group of friends given the keys to an empty mansion and 24 hours to throw the party to end all parties; original crime drama series Glue from BAFTA winning writer Jack Thorne and Troy which will showcase the young magician's skills as he performs incredible stunts right in front of the eyes of the unsuspecting public
