Film4-backed films receive 11 Golden Globe nominations

Four Film4-backed films have received a total of 11 nominations at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

Todd Haynes’ Carol receives five nominations: it is nominated for Best Motion Picture, Todd Haynes is nominated for Best Director alongside Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara who are both nominated in the Best Actress category. The film is also nominated in the Best Original Score category.

Lenny Abrahamson’s Room, awarded Best International Independent Film at the BIFAs on Sunday, is also nominated for Best Motion Picture. Brie Larson joins the list of nominees in the Best Actress category and Emma Donoghue is nominated for Best Screenplay.

Alicia Vikander is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Alex Garland’s Ex_Machina alongside Jane Fonda who’s nominated in the same category for her role in Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth, which also gets a nomination in the Best Original Song category.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on the 10th January 2016.

In addition, Carol and Room have received recognition on this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations list. Cate Blanchett is nominated for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role category and Rooney Mara is nominated for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role category, both for Carol. They’re joined on the nominations list by Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay who’re nominated respectively for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role categories for Room. The awards are announced on 30th January 2016.

Both films also feature prominently on the nominations list for the Independent Spirit Awards. Carol is nominated in the Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Female Lead (for both Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara) categories. Room is nominated for Best Female Lead, Best Film Editing and Best First Screenplay. The awards are announced on 27th February 2016.
