Film4-backed films win five BIFAs

Film4-backed films picked up five awards at the British Independent Film Awards last night, the annual ceremony which recognises excellence and achievement in independent filmmaking.
Lindsay Duncan won best actress for her portrayal of Meg in Roger Michell’s critically-acclaimed Le Week-end, which is currently on release in the UK. Ben Mendelsohn took Best Supporting Actor for his role in David Mackenzie’s Starred Up, in which he plays a father incarcerated in the same prison as his violent son (played by Jack O’Connell). Starred Up is released on March 21st 2014.
Imogen Poots took Best Supporting Actress for her role opposite Steve Coogan as Paul Raymond’s daughter Debbie in The Look of Love, whilst Any Hubbard won Best Technical Achievement for casting on The Selfish Giant.
Finally, Paul Wright took home the Douglas Hickox Award, which recognises excellence in a debut feature, for his first feature For Those in Peril. It was selected for Cannes in May before being released in UK cinemas in October.
