Film4 Celebrates After British Independent Film Awards Success

Film4 backed films Ex_Machina, Room, Suffragette, The Lobster and Dark Horse celebrate awards success at the The Moët British Independent Film Awards last night at Old Billingsgate, London.

Collectively, the five titles won a total of eight awards were given to Film4-backed films at last night’s ceremony, with the big winner of the night Ex_Machina taking home four awards; Best British Independent Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay for Alex Garland and Outstanding Achievement in Craft, which went to Andrew Whitehurst for visual effects. 

Olivia Colman picked up Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Lobster, whilst Brendan Gleeson was awarded Best Supporting Actor for Suffragette.

Director Louise Osmond and Producer Judith Dawson collected the Best Documentary Award for their film Dark Horse: The Incredible True Story Of Dream Alliance.

Last but not least, Best International Independent Film went to Room with director Lenny Abrahamson and producer Ed Guiney collecting the award along with the star of the film, 9 year old Jacob Tremblay.

Film4 films made up the entirety of the nominations for the Best British Independent Film award: 45 Years, Amy, Ex Machina, The Lobster and Macbeth. Similarly, the nominations for Best Director were all for Film4-backed films – Andrew Haigh, Asif Kapadia, Alex Garland, Yorgos Lanthimos and Justin Kurzel.
