Film4 garners multiple nominations for this year's BAFTAs
Category: News ReleaseFilm4 has garnered multiple nominations at this year's BAFTAs, with a combination of established names and up-and-coming talent being considered for the prestigious film awards.
Following her Golden Globe win this week Meryl Streep is nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, with a Best Actor nomination for Michael Fassbender for his role in Shame, which was released in cinemas last Friday and which has already earned him an LA Critics Award for Best Actor.
Steve McQueen's critically-acclaimed Shame is also up for Outstanding British Film, whilst The Iron Lady picks up three further nominations, for Jim Broadbent as Best Supporting Actor, Abi Morgan for Best Original Screenplay, and for Marese Langan for Best Make-up and Hair.
Film4-supported new filmmaking talent is also fully represented in the shortlist, with no fewer than three films up for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer: Joe Cornish's Attack the Block, Richard Ayoade's Submarine and Paddy Considine's Tyrannosaur.
Further up-and-coming talent is recognised in the Best Short Film category, with Martina Amati's Chalk and John Maclean's Pitch Black Heist competing for the short film prize.
Tessa Ross, Head of Film and Drama at Channel 4, says:
"Many congratulations from all at Film4 to this year's BAFTA nominees. We're delighted to see so much exciting new talent recognised alongside established names, with a shortlist that reflects a strong and incredibly varied year in British film. We wish all nominees the best of luck on the night."
