Film4 receives 30 nominations for The British Independent Film Awards

Rungano Nyoni’s debut feature I Am Not a Witch was the joint second most nominated film with a total of 13 nominations, including Best British Independent Film, Director, Screenplay and Actress. Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was joint third with 11 nominations, also including Best British Independent Film, Director, Screenplay and Actress. Paddy Considine’s Journeyman was nominated in three categories, and there were nominations for Clio Barnard’s Dark River, John Cameron Mitchell’s How To Talk To Girls At Parties, and Aneil Karia’s short film Work.
I Am Not a Witch’s 13 nominations included five for debut director Rungano Nyoni – Best Director, Screenplay, Debut Screenwriter and the Douglas Hickox Award for Debut Director, as well as top accolade Best British Independent Film alongside producers Juliette Grandmont and Emily Morgan. Nine year old Margaret Mulubwa will contest Best Actress with Frances McDormand and Ruth Wilson. Producer Emily Morgan is nominated for Breakthrough Producer. And the film was nominated for Best Cinematography (David Gallego), Costume Design (Holly Rebecca), Make Up & Hair Design (Julene Paton), Production Design (Nathan Parker), Music (Matt Kelly) and Sound (Maiken Hansen).
