Filming begins on the last ever series of E4's BAFTA-winning smash hit

Category: News Release

Misfits creator Howard Overman, Clerkenwell Films and E4 today announced that Rudy (Joseph Gilgun), Jess (Karla Crome), Finn (Nathan McMullen), Alex (Matt Stokoe) and Abby (Natasha O’Keeffe) will sign on for community service one last time in the fifth and final run of the award-winning series – to air on E4 in autumn 2013.

All good things must come to an end. It’s tough. We know. But that’s life. We have to deal with it and so do you. But guys, we can help each other, we can talk about our feelings of impending loss and sadness, like you know, a support group. In fact, there’s an idea….

The new series marks the first anniversary of the storm and a support group forms on the estate for those people who find having a super power isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Like… the ability to knit visions of the future, or to shag unwanted powers out of other people (you read that right) or to transform into a turtle. And as Dark Rudy likes to talk-slash-moan, it should come as no surprise that he is the first of our gang to start attending. And it’s here that he sees a very different future facing the team - one which could change things forever.

Strap on those ankle tags, because this is what you’ve been waiting for. Our guys are going to have to up their game if they’re going to tackle some real life A-grade super-powered vigilantes.

Murray Ferguson, Chief Executive of Clerkenwell Films, says: “Misfits was a bold and confident commission that backed original ideas and new talent, quickly becoming a hit with its audience on E4 and around the world. It's been great to produce a show that has been able to innovate on screen and online, and that broke new ground premiering with huge success on Hulu in America. Misfits has been an exciting and rewarding ride for us all and we now look forward to ending the show with a bang!”

Roberto Troni, drama commissioning editor says: “Misfits took the superhero genre and spun it on its head in an utterly unique and ambitious way. It was big, clever, funny and deliriously entertaining! E4 couldn’t be more proud of what the show has achieved. It has won countless awards, has launched the careers of directors and actors, and has played a vital part in E4’s continuing success. Howard and co have some BIG plans for the last series and like the characters in the show, it won’t be going quietly. Strap in and enjoy one final glorious ride!”

The new 8 x 60 min series will be produced by Clerkenwell Films (Afterlife, Persuasion) for transmission on E4 in autumn 2013. Writer Howard Overman (Misfits, Merlin), and executive producers for Clerkenwell Films Murray Ferguson and Petra Fried all return.
