Flabbergast TV commissioned to make Love My Face (w/t)
Category: News ReleaseChannel 4 has commissioned Flabbergast TV to make a new life-affirming series, marking the Glasgow-based company’s first commission for the Channel following its Emerging Indie Fund discretionary award last year.
Love My Face (w/t) is a 4x60’ format led by disability campaigner Jono Lancaster, following people with a range of visible facial differences as they seek support, advice and explore transformative treatments to help accept or address their differences.
In each episode, three people with facial differences - whether congenital, chronic, acquired or perceived – receive unique mental health support from Jono, who has first-hand experience of how the world can treat people differently simply because of how they look. Jono will support each person to examine why they want to change their face, how they could learn to love themselves, and explore whether medical treatments and procedures are really the best route for their individual circumstances.
The contributors will then meet with a team of elite facial medical experts who will explore potential bespoke treatment plans that use state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge equipment and techniques to potentially help transform the elements of their condition or appearance that trouble them most. Whether they choose to follow this route or not, they’ll be supported every step of the way.
Emotional, uplifting and inspiring, Love My Face (w/t) is about celebrating difference, building confidence and self-esteem and empowering people to lead the lives they want.
Jono Lancaster said: “I'm incredibly proud to be a part of a project that supports individuals living with a facial difference make decisions that are right for them. I'm excited to have the opportunity to be able to share what I've learnt throughout my life with our candidates, in the hope that they can go forward however they choose and make those decisions with a little more self-love and confidence behind them.”
Deborah Dunnett, commissioning editor for Channel 4, said: “I’m thrilled to have commissioned Flabbergast TV’s first project for Channel 4 and particularly such a special one. Love My Face is a moving series, giving people who feel judged control and choice over their future, and there’s nobody better to guide them through the process than Jono Lancaster and our passionate doctors.”
Andrew Snowball, Creative Director, Flabbergast TV, said: “We are extremely proud and excited that our first Channel 4 commission is such an empowering series. With Jono at the helm, it’s a show that helps and supports those taking part and encourages us all to think about how we speak to and behave towards people with visible facial differences.”
Love My Face (w/t) is a 4x60’ peak time series. It was commissioned for Channel 4 by Jo Street, Head of Daytime and Features and Deborah Dunnett, commissioning editor, Daytime and Features. It will be made by Flabbergast TV and the executive producer is Andrew Snowball.
