Category: News Release
Fashion expert and award-winning presenter Gok Wan returns to the Channel 4 Racing fold for Glorious Goodwood.
Channel 4’s investment in the five-day Glorious Goodwood meeting (July 29th – August 2nd) sees Gok present the fashion and lifestyle content for the final three days, starting on Ladies Day (Thursday, July 31) featuring the popular fundraiser The Magnolia Cup, a ladies only charity race.
Presenting from the beautiful West Sussex track, Gok will ensure that style and fashion is at the forefront of Channel 4’s Glorious Goodwood coverage, alongside world-class racing.
Ed Havard, Channel 4’s Head of Special Programmes and Live Events said: "Gok’s Channel 4 Racing debut was a resounding hit with our audience and proved that no-one brings fashion and racing to life like Gok! We are delighted that he will present live from Glorious Goodwood which will complement our superb racing coverage.”
Gok Wan said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my Royal Ascot debut and just love everything about horseracing. It’s a joy to be re-joining the Channel 4 Racing team at Glorious Goodwood and will be looking to build on from my original debut.”
Adam Waterworth, Managing Director for Goodwood Racecourse adds: “Following the success of Gok Wan, we are delighted to have him as our fashion correspondent during the last three days of Glorious Goodwood.
“On the Thursday we have the Magnolia Cup Charity Race and then on the Friday for the first time we host the L’Ormarins Best Dressed Ladies competition with a fantastic prize of a trip to South Africa in January. Racegoers are reminded that to enter they need to be dressed in blue and white and I’m sure Gok will have some great tips of what to wear.”
With a daily two-and-a-half hour afternoon slot, Channel 4 will broadcast five races every day from Glorious Goodwood with Saturday’s show taking in two additional contests from Newmarket plus The Morning Line at 8am. Nick Luck will lead Channel 4’s presenting team, which will include reporters Emma Spencer and Gina Bryce to help bring viewers closer to the action with exclusive access to the Goodwood stables. Mick Fitzgerald will deliver his regular jockey’s changing room inserts and punditry skills alongside Jim McGrath and Graham Cunningham. Tanya Stevenson will relay the betting markets and Simon Holt as commentator.
Frankie Dettori will also be on-hand to reveal the undulations of the Goodwood track and provide regular updates and insights throughout the Festival meeting.
Features to complement the five-day festival include in-depth interviews with jockeys William Buick and Harry Bentley, stable visits to Richard Hannon with Hannon Senior offering reflections of past Glorious Goodwood successes. The team will also undertake an array of features that showcase the Goodwood brand from a vintage car ride to an aircraft flight.
