Golden Globe nomination success for Channel 4

Following yesterday’s announcement of the nominations for the 72nd Annual Golden Globe® Awards, Channel 4 US acquisitions and home-grown comedy series, Derek, are in competition for 13 awards across the television categories.

Nominated shows include More4’s The Good Wife with a Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama, nod for Julianna Margulies following her Primetime Emmy Award win earlier this year, alongside recognition in the Best TV Series, Drama, category. Alan Cumming is also nominated for his role as Best Supporting Actor. Recent E4 acquisition Jane The Virgin, to be screened on the channel in 2015, was nominated in two categories: Best TV Series, Comedy, and a best TV comedy actress nod for lead Gina Rodriguez. 

Fargo, which aired on Channel 4 in April, earned a total of five nominations - for Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks, Allison Tolman as well as a show nomination for Best TV Mini-Series.  These coincide with yesterday's announcement that Kirsten Dunst and Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons will lead the cast for Season 2 of the drama.

Homeland which is currently airing on Channel 4 on Sunday’s at 9pm earned Claire Danes a nomination in the Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama, with William H. Macy’s role in Shameless bringing the total to 12 for the broadcaster’s acquisitions

Ricky Gervais has also been nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance as Derek in the Channel 4 comedy series. It is the third nomination for Gervais following a 2004 win for his role in The Office, and a nomination for Extras in 2008.

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe® Awards will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on Sunday 11th January in Beverly Hills.
